Great information, Carolyn! One comment about bedding: the BEST, if you can swing it, is a down comforter. It's light-weight and extremely cozy warm. The next in line would be wool. I have found wool blankets at good will shops that were in very good condition. A friend of mine has bought feather comforters there as well. She carefully washes and dries them, fluffing the feathers through at intervals while drying.
