Going Green

You might be living under a rock if you haven't heard all the media attention about "Going Green".

On this Earth Day I wanted to share the ways that I have "Gone Green"

1. Started recycling
2. Bought reusable containers for water consumption. No more plastic bottles!
3. Using canvas bags or reusable bags for shopping
4. Changed all light bulbs to energy conserving light bulbs
5. Turned the thermostat to 68 degrees for the Winter
6. Grouping errands to conserve gas.
7. Using E85 in Flexfuel compatible Vehicles
8. Washing laundry in cold water
9. Using Public Library instead of buying books

How are you "Going Green"?

Mark and I have to get better at all this. Just this weekend we brought over some stuff to a nearby community garden. They have a compost pile over there.

I'm curious about the light bulbs. Are you using compact fluorescents?

We do recycle every scrap we can, and if we're throwing out something still usable, we set it out on the street. People pick stuff up all the time.

Great ideas! I've kissed my swifter goodbye and have started using my sons old t-shirts and such for my cleaning rags. I also try to pack our picnic lunches in reusable tupperware containers as opposed to plastic wrap and baggies. It all helps and adds up :-) Happy Earth Day!

I've been trying to recycle a little more. There is no good place to put a recycling bin in our kitchen and our trash cans (and recycling bins) are all the way down the walk out behind the shed. However, now it's been warmer out I don't mind the walk to throw something in the recycling bin. Sometimes that's the only time I get outside in the day!

I do #4, #8 and #9. Those other things you do are great, too. We could definitely be more "green" here.
God bless :)

Thanks for coming by my little blog!

I've got an earth day post up today too. These are great tips. I'm getting ready to make the switch to reusable grocery bags too. We recycle and are using more cfl's now too. Baby steps! I do have a terrible paper towel dependency though (shame on me)!

Each person an do so much by doing very little!! That is the amazing part!
We recycle, we use the energy efficient bulbs, Bill mows with a push mower and we are careful about watering. We got reusable grocery bags at Ikea. Cheap and we can use them for a long time.
We donate anything we do not use and have started NOT buying things we really do not need.
We buy from local farms in season.
We turn off lights when not in use, set the thermostat up, use cleaning, washable rags. Trying just a bit at a time. I air dry what I can and wish I could put out a clothes line. : (

Happy Earth Day!!!

Love,
Sue
