Grandma’s Personal Care Kit
My Mom’s Mother died about a year ago. While the family was going through her things, I found a box of several plastic containers with miscellaneous items in them. Upon closer inspection, I saw a piece of paper that said
Personal Care Kit: This Kit was assembled specially for you to use it at any time. For daily or occasional use.
Paper Clip: To keep things together when they seem to be slipping out of control
Rubber Band: To remind you that you can always bounce back because there is always someone to offer a hug when you need it
Tissue: To wipe away a tear. Yours or someone else’s
Eraser: To erase any misunderstandings that is troubling you
Band Aid: To remind you of healing
Candle: To light your way
Candy Bar: To remind you that you are really sweet
Meditation: For an uplifting thought
Lifesaver: To remind you of how important you are to those around you
Scripture Verse: To share God’s word of love

There were enough of the Personal Care Kits for everyone that was there that day.
I believe my Grandmother knew she would be leaving us soon and wanted to give us something that would comfort us when she was gone.
And indeed they have been a comfort. One Aunt keeps it in her desk to pull out when she is having a hard day. I keep my Kit by a picture of me and my Grandmother. Wherever they are kept, the Kits are a nice way to remember Grandma and to feel her love even though she is no longer with us.

That is so touching that she did that. What a sweet gift from her to her loved ones :)
Thank you so much for sharing this. We are facing the imminent reality of losing my grandma, and this touched my heart.
How sweet!
God bless :)
Hi Carolyn, that's a beautiful story, and the kit does have a way of brightening your day. Deb
What a cute idea!We found a poem when we went through my grandmas stuff.
That is so heartwarming. She sounds like she was a wonderful lady!
I too have maintained a personal care kit with most of items bought from Kmart.
