About St. Anne's Hill
“A Dickens of a Christmas In St. Anne’s Hill” is the Miami Valley’s oldest continuously running historic home tour, having debuted in 1983. Proceeds from the tour will benefit the St. Anne’s Hill Neighborhood Association, and are used to maintain the neighborhood’s historic character.
The St. Anne's Hill Historic Society is celebrating their 35th Anniversary, commemorating the evolution of the neighborhood since it became a registered historic district in 1974. The St. Anne's Hill Historic District neighborhood relies on the efforts of the volunteers in St. Anne's Hill Historic Society, its residents and the community to insure its continued success and growth. The neighborhood of St. Anne's Hill is a historic community within the City of Dayton, located one mile east of the downtown area just beyond the Oregon District. The area was part of the original out-lots of the City of Dayton, which were plotted in 1815 by Daniel C. Cooper, an early settler of the City. Although not settled for several decades, by the1830's the first documented use of the name "St. Anne's Hill" for the area is found in newspaper advertisements promoting the sale of nursery stock from a greenhouse in the area.

Hawthorn Hill Tours

Hawthorn Hill
Are you captivated with the history of flight? Would you be fascinated by a glimpse into the mind of Orville Wright? Do you enjoy visiting beautiful, historic homes? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then Hawthorn Hill is the place for you!

Due to an exciting partnership between Dayton History and The Wright Family Foundation, Hawthorn Hill, the Oakwood mansion that Orville Wright called home for nearly 35 years, is available for educational tours. Dayton History will conduct the tours while the Foundation will continue to own and manage the stately property. This joint venture marks the first time that the structure will be accessible on a regular basis for members of the general public.

The building itself has had a long and colorful history of hosting distinguished visitors. Charles A. Lindbergh, internationally acclaimed for his 1927 solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean, was invited to visit in June of that year on his return flight home to St. Louis. During his visit with Orville, throngs of people gathered on the lawns of the house, hoping for an impromptu view of this newest American hero. The unruly crowd dispersed only after Lindbergh and Orville appeared together on the front portico balcony for a few short minutes. Several years later, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and former Ohio Governor James Middleton Cox stopped at Hawthorn Hill to pick up Orville for a joint visit to Wright Field.

Even after Orville’s death in 1948, the mansion continued to welcome individuals from across the country and around the world. When efforts to find an individual to purchase the home failed, the executors of Orville’s estate listed the property on the real estate market. The National Cash Register Company, at the direction of executives Colonel Edward Deeds and Stanley Allyn, decided to purchase the property on the very day that the “For Sale” sign was placed in the yard. NCR meticulously cared for the home during its nearly 60 years of service as a corporate guest house. The company returned the property to the Wright family in 2006.

My Hot Date

I got a hot date tonight. My Man is taking me to La Comedia Dinner Theater. I made a comment in general that I would like to see it and he surprised me by setting up a gathering of all our friends to see the show. It's gonna be fun. But I have a sneaking suspicion that the Guys are just going for the food?!?!?!

Broadway Hit Thoroughly Modern Millie is Making its LaComedia Debut!

This new high-spirited musical romp will have you doing the Charleston! Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to New York City in search of a new life for herself. It's 1922, a time when the rules of love and social behavior are changing forever.

Filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon-lady of a villainess you will love to hate, this zany romantic spoof of the Roaring Twenties, makes for a perfect afternoon or evening of madcap merriment. And with the role of Millie Dillmount, musical theatre has found a new heroine for the ages in Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Wishing for Spring......again

Yesterday it was 63 Degrees. Sunny and Beautiful!! Today it is 32 degrees. Rainy, Sleety and Snowy. I am so sick of the rain and snow!! I am sooooo wishing for Spring right now.

So I decided we would go on a Photo Field Trip!!! These are pictures I took at Wegerzyn Gardens in Dayton, Ohio.

Overview of Wegerzyn Gardens
Nestled in the Stillwater River valley, five minutes north of downtown Dayton, there is a magical place for nature lovers – Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark. The Wegerzyn Horticultural Center was founded in 1973 as the result of a generous gift by Benjamin Wegerzyn and the dedicated work of area garden clubs. The center and gardens are now a part of Five Rivers MetroParks and are dedicated to providing the Miami Valley residents with learning experiences in gardening, horticulture, the environment and urban land stewardship of the river corridor. Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark is bordered on the west by the scenic Stillwater River and on the east by a mature lowland swamp forest of sycamore, oak, red and silver maple, hickory and ash trees. The Stillwater River Recreation Trail passes through the park.

Features & Activities at Wegerzyn Gardens
Throughout the year, stroll through beautiful formal exhibition gardens, enjoy the world-class Children’s Discovery Garden, walk the Marie Aull Nature Trail and Swamp Forest Boardwalk, and discover the scenic Stillwater River corridor. Participate in gardening, natural science and environmental programs for all ages at the Wegerzyn Center. Every season has something special to offer.
