    As far as homesteading -- we live on an 80-acre farm in Nebraska and do whatever we can to recycle, reuse, and plan for the future by growing or making our own food. :)

    We have been having our own garden for about 4 years now, and can whatever we can from there :) It's only about 1/4th an acre, but we stuff it as much as we can! We also have chickens, and a compost pile!!

    Nice blog. Sounds like a great give-away. I live on about an acre of property on the edge of a town so tiny there are NO businesses in town pop. about 100 or so. in east central Indiana. My son and I are starting our first garden in years and by far the largest this year as well as learning about chickens and beekeeping as we have plans to do both!

    Would love to win this as we are just getting started. I live on 7 acres, but my family owns around 30 surrounding us. We have a well, septic, and a barn already. We have had gardens in the past, but are planning to start one next week. Just read a great book by Terri Blackstock (Restoration Series) it makes doing this a smart idea.

    The best I can do at this point is continuing our veggie garden, although the back yard does not get enough sun. I was just talking to my grandfather on Saturday about raising chickens. He grew up on a farm. It's something I'm considering.

    We just bought our house. It's 2/3 of an acre and are now exploring how we can
    1. make/store our own energy
    2. collect rainwater, we've ordered barrels from a guy nearby
    3. started an intensive garden
    4. looking into what the city codes are on whether or not we can keep bees
    5. chickens will be next year
    6. rabbits for meat may be the year following depending on city codes for # of animals allowed
    7. I've collected items for canning. My dad's proud ;)
    8. We've learned we can mae over a ton of food on our property. Our area's poverty level is insane so we've decided to go ahead and grow as much as we can so we can donate the excess to our food bank. They don't get many vegetables, even canned ones.

    WELL, if I won, this would be a gift for my father, who is looking into and pursuing selling our house to move to a 12 acre plot of land so that we can live more closely with the earth! How awesome is that?! So I would give him that as a gift, but for me, i’m pursuing homesteading more by using all organic beauty products!

    I want to become more self-sufficient, so I need to be able to start utilizing the little spot of land I have. I would love to move to a bigger place, but $$ (or lack thereof) won't allow, so I just need to buckle down until I can move. Anything I can produce myself - I want to learn how!

    The goal is to get a house where I do as much growing of our own food in the backyard as I possibly can and then after we buy our first house I want to try to get a farmette so that I can have some chickens and we would also love to have some goats.

    What a great giveaway! I have always enjoyed canning, but I used produce from the farmer's market because our current home is in the national forest--not particularly conducive to gardening. Our house is entirely too big for us, and we want to downsize to a home that fits our family's needs. About two years ago, we purchased part agricultural/part wooded land in a valley and we are building a small cabin. Our budget is super tight while we are paying for both properties, but the goal is to homestead on the new property. Last summer, we had a relatively small garden plus the benefit of very productive blueberry bushes, a pear tree and grape vines. This year, our goal is to grow all of the vegetables we need for the year. We have also planted 11 heirloom apple trees and two blackberry bushes. We have much to learn, but we are excited to be making progress!

    WE have 3 gardens, 2 plum trees, a peach tree and a pear tree and I can and freeze everything I am able to. We are workin on rain barrels to be able to use that to water gardens. We watch our usage of electricity, water, etc. And want to implement more ways to be more self sufficient.

    I currently live in an apartment but I still plant a few 'most used' garden items in my one little spot of sunshine. I grow houseplants, too. I also help with my BF's plantings. He lives in the country but travels alot. Right now, I'm not there to maintain a garden for us but we have been putting in flowers, fruit trees, nut trees... We also maintain feeders for deer, turkey and birds.

    It's a start... for now.

    It's a dream of ours to homestead but for now we are renting. We do have access to a large yard and we put in a small garden every year to enjoy the fresh veggies an herbs of the season. I freeze extras. We also have a backyard flock of hens to savor fresh eggs!

    Love it! I've got solar, recycle and compost as much as possible, have lots of fruit trees and put in a reasonable sized veggie garden each summer and then can/freeze/dry as much as I can (talk about eating local) AND I started harvesting and storing rainwater a few years ago to help water my garden and trees!

    We just bought our first place about a month ago,it's only an acre but we are going to do everything we can with it.I plan on doing what I can with a garden this year(still have to clear brush for a permanent garden).We also hope to get some chickens soon.I'm also looking into what else we can do to homestead!

    I live in the city, but am from a long line of farmers- being from Iowa, well it is almost instinctive to grow your own vegetables! Last year we got lucky and finally got the lot next door-I have a garden! I compost, and recycle what cant be composted- I would love to learn more!

    My Husband and I just started our small homestead. We just recieved 26 chicks ago 2 weeks ago. They are layers. Hopefully in the future we want to get some dairy goats. We are also starting a small garden this year as well. We have lots to learn and are ready for the adventure.

    Sounds like a great book! I just started on my herb garden yesterday after moving into my home three weeks ago. I also "recycle" old clothing by using them to make new ones!

    Well, I don't have a home yet, so I'm always thinking about ways to make the most out of what I use...reusing jars, cans, making large portions and freezing, etc.
